Find the traps
before you send.
One blocked domain can shut down your entire email program. Recovery takes months.
The Spam Trap Check Agent scans every address in your list for risk before a send — and tells you exactly why each flag fired. No guessing. No post-mortems.
What is a spam trap, and why does hitting one block your whole domain?
A spam trap is an email address that mailbox providers and blocklist operators use to identify senders with “poor list hygiene”. We call them “spammers.” Spam traps never belong to real subscribers. They accept mail and never bounce — which makes them invisible at send time. Hitting even one can trigger a blocklist entry that shuts down your domain for every recipient, not just one. The CorZen Spam Trap Check Agent scans every address in your list against weighted offline risk signals and returns a HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW rating with a plain-English reason for every flag, before a single email is sent.
| Trap type | How it works | What it catches |
|---|---|---|
| Typo trap | A misspelled provider domain — gmial.com, yaho.com, gmail.co — that forwards mail to a blocklist monitor | Fat-fingered signups, fake addresses, lists that were never validated at entry |
| Pristine trap | An address that has never belonged to a real person, seeded on scraped pages and in purchased data sets | List buyers, scrapers, anyone who did not obtain the address through a legitimate opt-in |
| Recycled trap | A real address abandoned by its owner and reclaimed by the ISP after years of dormancy | Senders who mail old, inactive subscribers without re-permission campaigns or regular suppression |
Every address gets a rating.
Every rating gets a reason.
A bare verdict is not useful. HIGH means nothing without knowing why. The agent explains every flag in plain English so you know whether to suppress, verify, or send.
Suppress before sending
Malformed syntax. Typo domain. Known trap or placeholder address. Multiple converging signals. Do not send. Confirm with a paid validation service if the contact has value.
Not proof of a trap — a false positive here is a real customer. Suppress and verify before deleting.
Review before sending
One meaningful signal: role address, disposable domain, long dormancy, purchased-list flag, or bounced status being re-mailed. Segment out of the main send and re-confirm opt-in.
Often real people who have become risky over time. Re-permission campaigns recover them.
Safe to send
No offline trap signals. These addresses passed every check the agent runs. Send with confidence.
A live pristine trap can still score LOW — engagement history and confirmed opt-in are the real protection.
From file upload to annotated CSV.
Five steps. Two minutes.
The scan runs offline. No address leaves the tool. The output is a CSV your team can act on today.
Upload your list or paste your addresses
Drop in a CSV, TSV, or Excel file. Paste raw addresses if that is faster. The agent finds the email column on its own — no reformatting before you run it. Add last open, last click, or signup date columns if your export includes them. They sharpen dormancy and recycled-trap scoring without being required.
The offline scanner checks every address
Malformed syntax. Typo domains — gmial.com, yaho.com, gmail.co. Known trap and placeholder domains. Role addresses: info@, noreply@, sales@. Disposable providers. Subscriber dormancy from engagement data. Purchased or scraped source flags. Every check runs against every row.
Review the HIGH, MEDIUM, and LOW breakdown
The agent returns a tier count so you know the shape of the problem, then an annotated CSV with one row per address: risk rating, numeric score, trap type detected, and the plain-English reason behind the flag. The reason is the point — you are not left to guess at a bare verdict.
Act by tier: suppress, verify, or send
HIGH: suppress before sending. Confirm with a paid validation service if the contact has real value. Do not bulk-delete on a HIGH rating when there is engagement history behind it — that is a real customer. MEDIUM: segment out of the main send, re-confirm opt-in, or verify. LOW: send.
Optionally confirm high-risk rows with a paid validation service
Offline signals give you risk score. Paid confirmation services like ZeroBounce give you certainty on the rows that matter. Run confirmation on HIGH rows where the contact has pipeline value. Skip it on rows where suppression is the obvious call.
Who this is for:
Anyone whose pipeline runs
on email getting delivered.
The risk is not proportional to list size. One trap hit on a small list can do the same damage as a thousand on a large one.
Email marketers
Sender score is one of the only metrics that takes months to recover once it drops. The agent gives you a defensible suppression decision before every campaign — not a post-mortem after deliverability fails.
Growth and demand gen teams
Volume means trap exposure grows with your list. Run the check on every new import and re-engagement segment before it touches your main sending pool. The cost of one blocklist entry exceeds the cost of the scan.
Sales development reps
Third-party outreach lists carry the highest pristine trap risk. One sequence sent to an unscreened bought list can take down the domain your whole team’s pipeline runs through. Scan before you sequence.
Other tools bounce the bad addresses after the damage.
CorZen stops them before.
You have options. Each one gets something right and stops short somewhere. Here is where each one lands.
